Art galleries

Santa Barbara is home to several arts and cultural organizations, including the Santa Barbara County Office of Arts & Culture. This office works with the community to develop arts programs and policies to help foster a vibrant arts community. In addition to its role in the city’s arts community, the office coordinates countywide arts events.

The city has a vibrant arts scene that reflects its natural beauty. Visitors can enjoy classical music, dance performances, live theatre, and art galleries. In addition, the city hosts an international film festival. Every first Thursday, downtown galleries and art galleries open their doors to visitors for the First Thursday Art Walk. Art lovers can also enjoy the Funk Zone, a collection of historical and industrial buildings that have become galleries, studios, and shops.

Several museums are also located in the city, including the Santa Barbara Museum of Art. This historic building features internationally acclaimed collections and special exhibitions. The collection includes antiquities, 19th-century art, and Asian art. The museum is also known for its extensive on-site programming. Alternatively, visitors can visit the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara, located at the Paseo Nuevo mall. Both of these museums showcase exhibitions and free public programs.

Santa Barbara is full of beautiful landmarks. Its colourful history goes back to the Chumash Native Americans, who lived off the sea and land. Spanish architecture is also prevalent in the city, evoking images of Spanish homes and religion. In the nineteenth century, a group of families known as “Californios” arrived in Santa Barbara, building orchards and ranches and bringing them the arts and philanthropy.
