Located between the Atlantic Ocean and Isle of Wight Bay, Ocean City is a Maryland resort town with miles of sandy beaches and a wooden boardwalk dotted with shops and restaurants. The city is also home to Trimper’s Rides, a classic theme park that has entertained guests for decades. Water sports are popular, and kayakers and tour boats trip to the nearby Assateague Island.

Ocean City in Maryland

During the early nineteenth century, Ocean City was the northernmost attraction in Maryland. The Atlantic Hotel opened on July 4, 1875. The town is well known for its sandy beaches and a boardwalk full of shops and restaurants. It is also home to the famous Ferris wheel. It is popular with tourists but can get very crowded and hot during the summer. Fortunately, Ocean City has the Ocean City Boardwalk Tram, which will take you to the main attractions in the town without having to endure the long walk.

Aside from the beaches, the town is famous for its fun atmosphere and three-mile-long Boardwalk. While it is a family-friendly town, it is also an excellent spot for adults to meet and have fun. Visitors can spend the day relaxing on the beach or trying out new water sports.

Ocean City Hotels

If you’re planning a trip to Ocean City, you’ll want to make sure you book a hotel room well in advance. Summer months are the most popular, with temperatures perfect for sunning and water sports. However, summer also means that rates will be higher. Because of this, you’ll want to plan your trip well in advance to avoid paying top dollar for a room. When rates are lower, spring and fall are also good times to visit Ocean City.

Whether travelling with a family or looking for a romantic getaway, many hotels in Ocean City are worth considering. For example, you can stay at the Flanders Hotel, considered one of the oldest boardwalk hotels in America. It was built in 1923 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2009, it was also designated a landmark and will be celebrating its centennial in 2023. The Flanders has retained much of its historic charm while offering modern amenities. The suites are equipped with private bedrooms, irons, and full kitchens.

You can also stay at the Carousel Oceanfront Resort Hotel and Condominiums in Ocean City, Maryland. Located on 117th Street and Coastal Highway, this resort features multiple dining options, an indoor and outdoor pool, a gym, and a spa. In addition, it offers a wide array of special events and amenities to keep you entertained.

Ocean City Beach

For a sunny, warm day or a balmy spring evening, there’s nothing better than a trip to Ocean City’s beach. The city has 10 miles of white sand beaches and is rated the best family beach on the East Coast. The beach is open to the public and free to use.

While it doesn’t have the glitz and glamour of nearby Miami Beach, is still a lovely beach for families. It offers nice sand, sound waves, and a small amount of wildlife. However, Ocean City is not remarkably pristine compared to wilder shores like Assateague. Still, a few attractions offer fun for the entire family. The town’s giant Ferris wheel is the main attraction, and there’s also the occasional craft fair or auto show.

After the war, the city grew into one of Maryland’s most prominent vacation destinations, allowing more people to visit the beach. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge made it easier to access the shoreline from the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. By the 1970s, over 10,000 condominiums were built , providing residents with stunning beach views and pounding surf. This is still growing westward, spreading toward Ocean Pines and Berlin. Even so, it remains an excellent destination for those who want to get away from the everyday grind and have a vacation to remember.

Ocean City Fishing Pier

After three months of repairs, the Ocean City fishing pier is back open. A massive wave swept over the harbour during Hurricane Sandy, destroying it. While the dock was unaffected in front of the building, the rest washed away onto the beach. The Pier will be rebuilt to its original size of 489 feet by 20 feet.

The Pier is connected to Jolly Roger’s Pier Amusement Park and extends into the Atlantic Ocean. Fishing at the Pier does not require a fishing license. Visitors can also rent a rod and net for $10. The Pier also features fish-cleaning tables. Located just off the Boardwalk, it is one of the most popular places to fish in Ocean City.

The first extension of the Pier was completed in 1907. A group of local investors developed the project. Initially, it was known as “Taylor’s Ocean Pier.”
